Easy Ham and Cheese Roll Recipe

 We got this recipe from the cooking demo by Marby Bakeshop. Try it! It's so delicious!

 

Ingredients

• 1 loaf sliced bread
• 2 cups cooking oil
• 2 packs ham
• 2 packs cheese slices
• 3 cups bread crumbs
• 4 pcs eggs, beaten

Procedure

1. Prepare pan in medium heat. Put oil and fry the ham.

2. Flatten the sliced bread using the edge of a glass bowl.

3. Put the sliced cheese and ham inside, roll and seal using water.

4. Dip the rolled bread in the beaten eggs first and next to the bread crumbs.

5. In a skillet over medium heat, pour the cooking oil.

6. Pan fry bread rolls until golden brown.

This Ham and Cheese Roll melts in your mouth! Yummy!

Insights of Single Men & Women on Working Mom Magazine August 2013 Issue

I read my own copy of Working Mom Magazine August 2013 issue from cover to cover while waiting for my childhood best friend, Weng, for our so called "BFF Date" last Friday night. I was able to finish it in one sitting for 45 minutes.

I liked all the articles in this issue as much as I liked last month's. They brought up fond and challenging memories when my husband and I started to build our own family. I remember when our eldest was about to be born. Our excitement led us to purchasing gadgets, furniture, and paraphernalia by the book. To our dismay, most of them were not applicable nor suitable to our child. Why didn't we think of setting up our home and bought just the essentials like what the article Reality Check (p. 94) says? 

I got challenged and inspired how Chesca and Doug Kramer could keep their home neat and tidy (p.51) despite having three small children. It could be achieved by imbibing the Creative Organizing Ideas from Ace Hardware (p.112)!

My sons are picky eaters. Delicious recipes prepared by Chef Christa Mendiola on Homemade, Baby (p.104) and kid friendly recipes shared by eight parents in Oh My Gulay! (p. 74) would probably make my kids enjoy eating veggies!

 

Two heartwarming articles under Awakenings (p.60) made me cry. They tackled about the joys and pains of being a mom and how to appreciate your mother more.

I am so excited to talk about Working Mom August 2013 as much as I want to like I did in the previous issue. It's simply because I love it! Of course, I'M A MOM! All articles are applicable to me and to other moms out there as Working Mom always does. But wait! How about non-mommies? Single men and women perhaps?

I thought it would be very nice to get feedback about this magazine from "single" people. It would be very challenging on my part because I had to convince these single women especially men to grab a copy and read a magazine for moms. I guess it was timely for them to try. Why not?

My husband and I asked some of our friends to grab and read a copy of the magazine. At first some of them were hesitant and they insisted that they would do it out of love! I left them these four questions to reflect on. I told them to answer at least two.

1. What are the things that caught your attention in Working Mom Magazine August 2013 issue? Why?

2. How does it relate to your present situation?

3. Which do you think are the BEST features in this issue? (Please include the TITLE/S and PAGE/S of the article/s.)

4. How would you describe this month's issue in a nutshell?

1 "Toy Story (p.78) gave me ideas on how to choose the right gifts for my nieces, nephews, godchildren, friend and office mate's children. Being single, I am always wondering about what appropriate toys to give them. This article teaches individuals the proper way of choosing toys for kids depending on their age and personalities. I also like the article about Chesca Garcia-Kramer and family (p.51). Definitely, this issue contains useful information to mommies and non-mommies. Varied articles make it interesting."

2 "Homemade, Baby (p.104) can be very helpful to my sisters who have babies. Due to their busy schedule, thinking of what healthy foods to prepare will take so much of their time. Filipino Crafter of the Month (August 2013)--- FOLK TIES

I feel nude when I don't wear a watch when I go out. For me, it's a necessity. I want my watch to be nice, unique, inexpensive but durable.

I asked my godsister, Abby Cabuhat Posadas, to make one for me when I saw her sample photos on her online shop, Folk Ties.

The steps on how to order are so easy to follow: 

I chose from its pre-made designs  and referred to the color swatch where I chose my preferred colors.

When I received my order, I felt so ecstatic! All watches look so nice and dainty! I really love them.

Aside from ordering for myself, I also asked Abby to make watches for my loved ones.

My mom and I also decided to collaborate with Abby to make THOMASIAN BANDS for our clients at University of Santo Tomas.

I love everything about Folk Ties---from the owners and their creations and to what they stand for.  

Let me share with you how Folk Ties started...

Abby got the idea of making her own friendship bracelets when she learned that Saab Magalona, the daughter of late Master Rapper Francis M., was giving away a copy of "The Friendship Bracelet Book". Instead of joining the contest, she and her mom (my dearest Ninang Myrna) went immediately to the bookstore to purchase the book. A fashionista by heart, she wanted to create her own bracelets solely to match her outfits.

She was so excited that right after getting her own copy, she started the trial and error process in creating all the bracelets that she liked in the book until she perfected the craft. 

Her friends and office mates noticed the beauty and funkiness of her DIY friendship bracelets. They requested her to create different bracelet designs for them. At first, she didn't consider it to be her sideline or new business venture. She was just grateful that someone is appreciating her creations. Until one day, someone ordered in bulk and the rest was history!

Folk Ties was launched online through Facebook in October 19, 2012 by Abby herself, a Civil Engineer by profession. During that time, she was very busy with her Philippine Arena project that she needed the help of her good friend, Karina Rizza Gumatay. Karina became her business partner, who was in charge with marketing and online matters while taking care of her family business. Orders became in demand that led Abby to teach Karina the craft.

Abby's friends suggested to use her own name as the business name for her bracelets but she taught of naming her business "Folk Knots". After consulting her marketing executive friend, the name "Folk Ties" was born! Her graphic artist friend was the one who designed the official logo.

Abby and Karina asked the help of their Indie Artist friends to endorse their products. One of them was Jensen Gomez, Universal Records recording artist. They even named some of the bracelets after his songs.

Business flourish from bracelets to watches. Folk Ties was also featured on Net 25 on July 4 this year. Abby and Karina plan to infuse their designs to other materials soon!

Kalabasa (Squash) Soup Recipe by Miss Karen Miguel

A hearty soup during rainy season makes us feel hugged and loved! It feels good as the tasty hot soup slides in your throat and makes your tummy full and satisfied! Ah, heavenly!

I would like to share with you this healthy, hearty, and delicious Kalabasa (Squash) Soup by La Salle Green Hills Cooking Teacher, Miss Karen Love S. Miguel.

Ingredients

• 6 to 8 cups of good quality broth
• a quarter of squash, cored and skin cut off
• 1 big potato, skin off
• a whole onion, peeled and finely chopped
• salt
• pepper
• 1 tablespoon butter
• milk or cream (optional)

Procedure

1. Heat the broth.

2. Cut the squash in cubes.

3. When the broth is boiling, drop the squash and potato cubes, lower the heat, cover and simmer until the vegetable/fruit are are soft and mushy. Turn off the heat.

4. Pour the broth and vegetables into the blender and process until smooth.

5. In another stock pan, heat the butter. Saute the chopped onion until it softens. Pour in the pureed soup and bring to boil. Season with salt and pepper before serving. You may also stir in some milk or cream

My Husband's Version

He included bacon in the dish. He cut 4 strips of bacon into small pieces, fry them into their own oil until golden brown, and set them aside. On the same oil, he sauteed chopped onion until transparent and added fried bacon before doing what remains in Procedure Number 5.

This is my husband's version of Kalabasa (Squash) Soup. My kids are picky eaters of veggies but they loved it!
