Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp: Hosts, Mentors, and Wildcard Voting... Revealed!

Posted on 23:53 by thinger
Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp is back on its third year with a bigger and better production, as Wyeth Nutrition and ABS-CBN go beyond the studio walls and expose the kids to real talent institutions that have nurtured and developed similar talents – of dancing, singing, and acting – throughout the years.

For over 25 years, Promil Pre-School has been advocating the development of the Filipino children’s talents with the help of their parents, proper care and proper nutrition. In line with this advocacy, the i-Shine Talent Camp aims to help exceptionally talented preschoolers develop their full potential.  Aside from the extensive workshops, the roles of parents and proper nutrition will also play a big part in nurturing the preschoolers’ gifts to mastery.

Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp Year 3 TV hosts Dimples Romana, Matteo Guidicelli, and Xian Lim were present during the event. All three hosts shared their memorable experiences in the past years, as well as their excitement for what’s new for the third season.

The top caliber mentors were also revealed – fierce mom and the artistic director of G-Force, Georcelle Dapat-Sy; Multi-platinum artist and the country’s music icon, Zsa Zsa Padilla; and critically acclaimed and world-class television and movie actress, Angel Locsin. These mentors will guide the i-Shiners through a series of workshops, sharing their knowledge as experts in their various fields. In the duration of the camp, the chosen preschoolers will be guided and given the opportunity to strengthen their talents.

This year, the audience was given the chance to vote for their favorite i-Shiner through the Wildcard voting. A shortlist of 30 finalists was revealed on the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp microsite. The audience chose their favorites through online voting – one for singing, one for dancing and one for acting.  The three finalists per category with the most votes will join the nine finalists selected by Wyeth Philippines and ABS-CBN, and complete the top 12 i-Shiners.

These 12 i-Shiners will be taken to different institutions that played significant roles in nurturing the gifts of some of the country's icons for a series of workshops. The Grand Finale will stage a grand performance by the i-Shiners with the help of their moms and mentors. Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp is also giving away over Php 1 million worth of prizes, and a contract from ABS-CBN and Promil Pre-School to the Grand i-Shiner who will be receiving the highest score.

Previous Promil Pre-School grand i-Shiners Lukas Enrique Magallano in 2012 and Yesha Camille in 2013 have received numerous television appearances for their talents in singing and acting. Lukas was able to appear in Kapamilya shows such as ASAP, Little Champ and Muling Buksan ang Puso while Yesha is currently shooting for an upcoming series with her i-Shine mentor Piolo Pascual. These kids, having continuously shown much promise, are now on their way to become icons through the help of the i-Shine Talent Camp.

Hosted by Marie Lozano, guests were treated to performances by the current Promil Pre-School Ambassador, as well as Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp Year 2 Top i-Shine Singer, Nathan Bautista.

About Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp

The pre-school years are a good time for parents to start nurturing the gifts of their children. This is the age where they start to develop and apply what they have learned in their earlier years - they are becoming more and more curious and their character and interests will begin to emerge at this age. Parents play a key role in nurturing their child’s potential, especially when it comes to giving them the encouragement they need and proper nutrition so they can pursue their interests. 5 Quick Homemade Spreads by Tina Diaz on Working Mom Magazine June 2014

Posted on 17:46 by thinger
Ross loves cheese on his sandwiches but sometimes he is complaining, "'Ma, sawa na ako sa cheese. Wala bang ibang choice?" I would stare at him and say, "Parang ikaw naman yata ang may gusto lagi ng cheese." Then he will reply, "Oo nga ano, sige na nga po, cheese na lang!"

My eyes popped when I saw the article "5 Quick Homemade Spreads" by Tina Diaz on Working Mom Magazine June 2014 issue. The ingredients of the said homemade spreads cater to kids. Para maiba naman. Ross will love these for sure.

GUEST POST: Challenges of Good Parenting and How to Overcome It by Nikki Merrill

Posted on 20:47 by thinger
Parenting is a challenging activity, even for the good parents. Most of the challenges toraise up children are common to the dedicated parents and also to those who are not. For instance, many parents are not aware of how to deal with different personalities of their children as they grow up. This is more evident as the children approach their adolescent stage. Some of the characteristics that are hard for the parents to deal with include the children being too easily influenced, hypersensitive, defiant of disorganized. Most of the parents complain that it is very hard for them to change these personality factors in their children, and even harder to find a specific coping strategy.

As the children grow up, and especially, in the context of older children in their teenage, parents are also challenged when it comes to making decisions that will affect their children. For instance, ideas related to driving, entering a new school, dating, and less parental oversight are often met with different reactions from the children, making it difficult for the parents to deal with them.

Good parents are not only hardworking in raising disciplined children, but also they work hard to provide for their children. Basically, being a good parent does not mean that you are rich. As a result, most of the parents have a hectic schedule that leave them with less family time. Time is normally affected either by the work schedule or because of their children and hence the parents do not spend enough time with their children.

Another common challenge evident to good families is in case there is a child or any other member who is sick. For instance, a parent coming from a family with a child suffering from an incurable disease points out that one of the hardest thing in parenting is to watch and care for the sickly child. It will not only consume family resources such as money and time, but it also affects their psychological growth. The challenge increases as the parent watch their child grow, only, for the child’s life expectancy to be reduced.

Dealing with the challenges
There are several models that have been created with an aim of assisting the parents to overcome the main challenges experienced as their children grow up. The models may be situation specific and will work well in some situations and not in others. Some of these approaches include:

The Relationship Model that is often considered by the parents who perceive their relationship with their children as a resource when they are dealing or mitigating the challenges. One of the best practices is creating an environment of openness within the family where the child and the parents will be in apposition to discuss any matter. The approach is very relevant to the families with older children and helps the parents to point out various issues that their children want and also advise them accordingly. Most of the parents who had lacked control over the minutiae of their children’s lives have commended the approach.

Another approach is to Adopt the Personal Growth Model. In this approach, the parents need to identify themselves as objects of change. That is, the parents should start to view the challenges facing their children as an issue of their personal growth and development, rather than working hard to alter their child. The parents need to learn how to “pick battles” with the children and how to “relax” as well.

Leadership model is also another widely recommended approach. Basically, this will involve the parent acting as a leader and their children as followers. There are several leadership theories and models that has already been established. However, very few can work in a family setting.

The Dear in the Headlights Model goes beyond a parent noticing that there is challenge in the family to knowing whether the challenge is beyond your control as a parent and whether you require external assistance or not. Despite the fact that a number of parents can articulate challenges likely to face their families in some years to come, not many parents are able to identify a specific coping strategy for some of these challenges. The approach is often used by the parents who have to deal with internal characteristics of their children instead of situational factors.
